Guru Nanak’s Philosophy |
|
|
|
Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469-1539) was the
founder of Sikhism. He was an apostle of peace, truth and love. He preached the
Unity of God and universal brotherhood. He endeavoured to bring the mankind
close to each other in mutual harmony. He realized the truth and communicated to
the world. His teachings focus primarily on two cardinal truths namely: the
unity of God and brotherhood of mankind. Guru Nanak gives the concept of God in
the Mool Mantra. Guru Nanak says, God is one and is the only supreme master,
creator, preserver and destroyer. He is immortal, eternal, without a beginning
or an end. His existence is apparently visible everywhere. He is omnipresent and
omniscient. Sikhism belongs to every human being and it carries a universal
message in the true sense (Sarbat da Bhala). |
|
|
|
The Guru Nanak's message is for universal
brotherhood. In order to convey the message of universal brotherhood, a Muslim
sufi saint Miyan Mir was asked to lay the foundation stone of Har-Mandir Sahib
in the Sixteenth century A.D. While laying the foundation stone, Guru Arjan Dev ji
placed four doors in all four different directions. This was his invitation to
his followers, coming from all the directions regardless of any caste and creed. |
